Simple continuous offense foryounger players (older players can run it too.)
This offense maintains spacing on the court, provides each player with a one on one scoring opportunity, and is continuous so it may be continued until an acceptable scoring opportunity arises. It is ideal for skill development in younger players. This offense is also susceptible to very simple alterations by the coach which create very different responsibilities for the defenders.
(drawings of this offense are below)
The initial alignment is:
1 = guard with ball
2 = guard on side of court without ball
3 = wing on ball side of court
4 = wing on side of court without ball
5 = post in low post position on side of court without ball
An entry pass is made to a wing position 3. Followed by a cut by the passer 1 to the basket and out to the weak side.
While the ball holder 3 considers one on one options the perimeter players rotate to fill the empty positions and return us to the original alignment.
After permitting the wing player 3 to consider one on one options, the middle player 5 cuts toward the ball side of the basket.
The ball is reversed to the other side of the court and the players are in the same court positions on the other side of the court and the same offense may be run again from that side of the court.
Variations include having the middle player set a pick for the initial or second basket cut.This could be for the weak side wing 4, weak side top player 2, or high post pick at the foul line for a criss cross cut by the two top players 1 (cuts off pick to the weak side and helps set adouble pick for 2 while doing so) and 2 (cuts off pick to the strong side basket). Alternatively the off side high player 2 could cut to the basket possibly with the assistance of a pick by the passer 1. Once the cut is made the players simply rotate (keeping away from the ball holder) until the original courtpositions are filled. Another variation include running a pick and roll by the middle player 5 or the wing 4 moving up to set a pick for the dribbler 1. Another includes having the passer 1 cut around the outside of the wing 4 to receive a hand off and then the wing 4 either sets a pick and rolls to the basket or else simply cuts to the basket. When the ball is in the wing position another variation involves having the passer 1 or the wing 4 set a pick for the middle player 5 to make a cut toward the basket.
