Pass to wall targets

Why:

This drill may assist a passer with passingto a stationary player near the basket.

Who:

One player.

What:

One basketball, one wall, one imagination.

How:

The player picks spots on the wall whichrepresent the receiving hands of a stationary player near thebasket. There could be a spot above shoulder height to the left, one above shoulder height to the right, and one where thestationary player near the basket prefers to receive bouncepasses.

The player positions himself a reasonablepassing distance from the wall and assumes a triple threatposition. (A variation of the drill permits the player to assumethe player's personal defender is so far from the player that theplayer must dribble to approach his or her personal defender inan attempt to get close enough to eliminate the time for thedefender to react to the ball's path after the ball leave's thepasser's hands.)

The player uses his or her imagination tovisualize a defender closely guarding him or her and a defenderclosely guarding the teammate whose hands are represented by thespots on the wall.

The player fakes his or her defendercausing the imaginary defender to move a defending hand therebypermitting the player to feed the ball through the newly openedspace to the appropriate spot on the wall.

Ideally this drill will assist a passerwith getting passes past his or her personal defender and gettingpasses to the exact spot at which the imaginary receiver bestreceives passes.
