1976 Olympic Gold Baksetball

This is the last amateur U.S. team to win the Olympics against a complete international field prior to the American professionals being permitted to compete. The Soviet Union won in the controversial 1972 game, this team from 1976 won back the gold, the U.S. boycotted the 1980 games, the Soviets boycotted the 1984 games, the Yugoslavian team won in 1988, and the U.S. professionals competed in 1992. The ball was autographed with a blue ball point pen in the locker room after the gold medal game. The ball appears to have 17 signatures including both players and staff. It has easily legible signatures by Phil Ford, Steve Sheppard, Adrian Dantley, Walter Davis, Ernie Grunfield, Phillip Hubbard, Kenneth Carr, Scott May, Mike "Tate" Armstrong assistant coach Bill Gutheridge, and Manager Joe Vancisin. Those presumeably of William "Quinn" Buckner, Thomas La Garde, Mitchell Kupchak and coaches Dean Smith and John Thompson and trainer Troy Young are faint and less legible.
