Ten Strategies for Coaches in Achieving Mental Success

By Craig Nathanson, Danville, California, U.S.A.

He is completing his Ph.D at the Fielding Institute with a focus on how one designs on -line places which sell products that have the same qualities of the physical world. 1.Coaches are for guiding, players are for playing (Sometimes, it's easy to forget)

2.Yelling never helps (It may work in the short term, but causes damage in the long term)

3.Enjoy yourself (If you can't have fun, get out of the game)

4.Your students will remember more about the experience 20 years from now then the wins (Can you remember your team records from high school?)

5.Consistency teaches lessons for life (Role model this)

6.Encourage fair play (A valuable lesson you can pass on for life)

7.Involve parents in what you do (They will be your best support system)

8.Encourage differences (It's not always possible for everyone to play the same)

9.Get your players to think for themselves (Ask lots of questions)

10.Role model that you are having fun (This always wears off)
